In the summer of 2019, I made the decision to join Upwork, a popular freelancing platform. Prior to that, I had been working as an associate at a Law firm, but with the rising standard of living, I knew I had to start earning more. My major concern was doing something flexible because I wanted to be in control of my time, considering I worked 45hrs/week.

I spent a few days thinking about my options, and one day, I remembered hearing about Upwork, a platform where freelancers could connect with clients from all over the world. I decided to give it a try and immediately set up my account.

It took me a while to get a hang of it, but I kept going until I got my first response back! Oh, the excitement… the thrill. I wish there was something to liken it to. My first earning was only $25, but it gave me the motivation to keep going. There was definitely more where that came from, haha! I continued bidding on jobs and building my profile until I started getting more and more work.

Today, almost $20,000 later, I’m glad I never gave up. Freelancing on Upwork has given me the flexibility and control over my time that I always wanted. I’ve been able to work with clients from all over the world and learn new skills along the way.

If you’re considering freelancing on Upwork, my advice is to keep going, even if it seems impossible right now. With hard work, determination, and a willingness to learn, you can build a successful career ON YOUR TERMS.
