Upwork update: Proposal Editing with a catch

Sometimes Upwork rolls out major updates with countdowns and announcements. Other times, useful features quietly appear in our day-to-day work. Today, I discovered one of those quiet updates that could make freelancers’ lives a bit easier – the ability to edit proposals after submission.

Here’s what you need to know about this new feature:

  1. You can edit your proposal within 6 hours of sending it
  2. The client must not have viewed it yet

This is particularly useful for those common situations where you:

  • Notice a typo after sending
  • Want to add a forgotten detail
  • Need to adjust your pricing
  • Want to include an additional portfolio item

While it’s not unlimited editing freedom, it’s a practical addition that gives freelancers a reasonable window to make necessary adjustments. Think of it as a brief grace period for those moments when you catch something right after hitting the submit button.

Keep in mind that this feature isn’t a replacement for careful proposal preparation. It’s simply a helpful backup for those occasional oversights that we all experience.

Have you noticed this update? How do you think it might help in your proposal process?
